Visiting Gina Gleason at Trendz Salon is one of my favorite events. She’s been a hair stylist for 20 years, has two kids, a sharp sense of humor, and a magician’s touch when it comes to coloring hair. And while I often feel like falling asleep in the salon chair, it’s much more fun to chat with the stylist I’ve been seeing for so many years.
Gina always knew she wanted to be a stylist. Her mom was a beautician and her grandpa a barber. Through their guidance, she started cutting her brothers’, friends’, and boyfriend’s hair. She committed to beauty school and graduated from there even before she’d graduated high school.
Twenty years later, Gina still loves what she does and her passion comes through with every client. “My favorite part of doing hair is making big changes for the client. I love drastic change and being a part of something that makes the client feel different,” says Gina.
Gina has been a part of Trendz Salon since it’s opening in 2013. I’ve been seeing her for almost that long and she’s the first stylist I’ve had that makes me love my hair every time I visit. Since motherhood especially, I’ve struggled with feeling beautiful and with selfcare. Gina always has great tips and suggestions for me that help me look and feel better without a ton of work and time. Here are a few of them below!
Use Primer for makeup - it’ll stay on all day and give you a flawless makeup application. Wash your face morning and night! It’ll make a huge difference in the appearance of your skin.
Do a regular trim every 6-10 weeks. If you don’t want to or can’t afford coloring your hair, come in for a conditioning treatment. It’ll make your hair soft and easy to style without breaking the bank.
Hydrate! If your hair and skin are super dry, it could be as simple of a fix as getting enough water in daily. Drink up!
Use quality products like salon shampoo, conditioner and heat protectant. It will help the longevity of your hair colour as well as improve the health of your hair.
Find a good stylist! When choosing a stylist, find people whose hair you like and then ask who does it for them. You want to know that you like the work they do before you hire them. Ask how long they’ve been doing hair, what kind of continuing education they do, and follow them on instagram. You want someone who is being educated on current trends, not just guessing how to do them. “Find someone who is passionate about doing hair and who will use you as your canvas. Hire a stylist you will be proud to share with your friends!”
Trendz Salon in Montesano offers a $25 consultation (or free if you book an appointment!) to discuss hair and what might work or be a good fit for you.
